Summer Backyard Wedding | Joanna & Jarred

I met Joanna and Jarred when I shot her sister’s wedding, so it was a huge honour when they asked me to document their backyard wedding this summer. The wedding was held at Jarred’s parents’ place in North York, in a beautiful backyard overlooking a ravine. I’ve really been enjoying all the small weddings people have been hosting in their backyards over the past couple of years, they’ve been so intimate and laid back. Joanna and Jarred worked with event planner Esther Marcus to make the day fun and beautiful.

On the day of the wedding, they both got ready at the house with close friends and family. Everyone watched from the patio as they had their first look in the backyard, which was such a sweet moment. Afterward, they FaceTimed with family that couldn’t be there who live in South Africa. We went for a little walk in the neighbourhood before the ceremony so they could have some one-on-one time together. Back at the house guests arrived and filled the backyard. The Chuppah was beautifully decorated by Elissa from Pop-up Flower Shop, and they had a lovely ceremony followed by cocktails, speeches, and a fun hora! They kept dinner simple and fun with food trucks from Buster’s Sea Cove and Portobello Mushroom, and for dessert, they had Booyah Ice Cream’s food truck! Their close friend made their beautiful wedding cake, and it was so cute when they also asked him to cut it with them. They ended the night with a beautiful party under the stars. Here’s a little peek at Joanna and Jarred’s summer backyard wedding.
