Gladstone Wedding | Margarita & Luke
Margarita and Luke were such a wonderful couple to work with. They are down to earth, up for anything, and just wanted to have a great night with their close family and friends. They come from different places, and Toronto is the city that brought them together. They met at work on the same team, working long hours on a demanding project together, where they went from colleagues, to friends, to so much more. These two love to travel, but when they decided to have their wedding at the newly renovated Gladstone Hotel, their travel roles were reversed. Luke’s family came all the way from Australia to celebrate with them on the big day, and they also had guests fly in from all over Canada, the USA, and Germany – all within three months’ notice! They wanted to get married in a location that highlighted the city’s vibrant community and art scene, so they booked the Gladstone about a month after getting engaged. It was a super small gathering, which was exactly what they wanted, as they also had small celebrations planned with family in El Salvador and Australia, to make sure they could celebrate with those who could not attend the main event.
The Gladstone Hotel is a great spot to shoot because of the fun Queen West vibe on the street, the perfect lighting in the hotel rooms, the super friendly staff, and delicious food. Margarita and Luke also fell in love with it for the exposed brick walls, beautiful hardwood floors and vibrant lights. On their wedding day, Margarita got ready at the hotel with her mom and maid of honour, in a room with big windows and beautiful natural light. She didn’t have time to buy a wedding dress in a traditional manner, so instead opted to purchase her dress online through House of CB. She also honoured her grandma who had passed away the year prior, by wearing her bracelet, and her mom made her veil, which is now a wonderful keepsake. Luke got ready across the hall with his mom, dad, sister, and best man, and wore his dream suit that was made custom for him by Surmesur Custom Menswear. They had the cutest first look in the hotel before heading outside to take portraits in the iconic Toronto alleyways. Their ceremony was held in the Gladstone’s beautiful new event room. There were plenty of laughs all around throughout, and their officiant, Devon John, made it such a personal and touching ceremony. Afterwards we went for a sunset walk on Queen West. The colourful shops were a great backdrop for playful portraits of these two, and they even got free donuts from 6ix Donuts.
Back at the hotel Margarita and Luke had a little toast in their room before dinner with their best friends. There was so much awesome energy from their group and of course, the best dance party at the end of the night. They also had a boozy brunch set up the next day, which was a great way to relive the evening’s events. Here’s a little peek at their Gladstone Wedding.
