Thornbury Wedding | Madie & Matt

Madie and Matt’s beautiful summer wedding took place in Thornbury, Ontario, on Georgian Bay. It’s a place I also spent a lot of time in as a kid, so it felt extra special being back there to document their big day. They had a small, intimate wedding, with just close family and friends, and it felt perfect.

The day started at the cutest spot, Penny’s Motel, which is a newly converted motel. I remember driving by it as a kid and it’s definitely fully transformed. Everything is beautifully decorated, from the outdoor spaces to the fun feature walls in each room. They got ready with their closest crew, opening sentimental gifts and having a blast in the courtyard.

We made our way to the venue, Winifred’s English Pub, where the ceremony and reception were both held outside. The weather was perfect and the ceremony was so sweet. After the ceremony, guests mingled with beers and cocktails while we went for a little adventure to the river across the street. Matt and Madie got some one-on-one time together, while we shot some portraits by the water. We got back just before sunset where they had their first dance in the same spot they held the ceremony, which felt really special.

As the sun went down everyone gathered in the tent for dinner and some of the most memorable speeches I’ve heard. Matt is a former Olympian and they both are avid runners, so it was really fun hearing stories of their adventures retold by their loved ones. Their magical Thornbury wedding ended with a surprise song and of course a dance party under the stars.
